Good morning EMS blog fans. As we have been getting this blog off the ground there have been some delays in posts, but no need to worry – we are now on a schedule! We will post new blogs every Friday at the very least (more stuff to share = more blogs!). As you may wonder about the title, several of the divisions of OEMS are located in the upper basement of the VDH building in beautiful downtown Richmond. If you haven’t heard the Division of Educational Development and the Division of Emergency Operations have moved! They are now located in burbs of Henrico County. For a map and more info click here http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/oems/. (but come back to read the rest!)
In other news the Symposium catalog is under production and entering the final phases to be printed! It should be in your mailbox sometime towards the end of July and beginning of August. We are planning on having the registration live on the OEMS Web site on August 1st!
If you are a first time visitor to the blog, I hope you are here because you got a postcard from us! Don’t worry we won’t make you use a toy medical kit! If you want to stay current on OEMS news be sure to sign up to get the newsletter at the OEMS Web page.
As I sit here surrounded by stuffed animals – I am reminded to let you know about the success of our stuffed animal drive! To recognize EMS for Children Day we asked our VDH friends to donate stuffed animals. These animals will be given out at the Governor’s Awards Banquet to the attendees put on their ambulances to give to pediatric patients or children who are with parents who are patients. We did get some animals that are large enough to take up half of the back of the ambulance, and those will be donated to the pediatric center at VCU Hospital.
Now, we are asking for your help! Do you have historic pictures from your EMS agency or any EMS related historic pictures? We need them for the OEMS calendar! If you can scan them and e-mail them to Beth Singer at elizabeth.singer@vdh.virgina.gov - we would greatly appreciate it! Be sure that they are scanned in at a high resolution (300 dpi). For questions – ask Beth.
That is all for now from the upper basement. We hope that you have a safe and happy week!
saw your post asking for ems pictures for your calendar
Henrico County has an in-house video dept. that shoots and edits
their own pieces for cable ch. HC 17.. my dad watched earlier
this year a history of the Henrico County Fire Department, with a
good deal of old images, if I remember correctly. They interviewed a lot of
retirees who they may be able to put you in touch with if the pictures weren’t from their own collection.
good luck-
Thanks for the info! We will contact our friends at Henrico and see if they have some photos to share.
